are pumpkin seeds bought at a typical outlet grown to provide a pure genetic cross? or do the places that grow these seeds control what pollinates thes pumpkins?

Seed Packet seeds are produced under field conditions. They are isolated but open pollinated.

Don't count on it. My last years was store bought from a bankruptcy sale, and they were AG's for sure. They produced nice orange pumpkins, but the best weight produced was 137lbs. The plant was impressive for a bottom of line AG but didn't come close to the size of a hybrid today.
