Hi, I am new to all of this and would like alittle advice. My pumpkin is over 100 lbs and over the past few days the leaves leading to my pumpkin on the main vine have all turned brown and died. The pumpkin is still growing and the leaves on every other vine off this plant are still beautiful. Is this going to affect the growth of my pumpkin? and can this kill my pumpkin?

It is normal for the older leaves to die off this time of year and the main vine leaves are generally the oldest leaves on your plant. I would expect the dying to travel up the main and gradually expand out from the stump in the order in which the leaves appeared. Thats normal here on Long Island. Now, if its a disease thats a different story, but if its your first year I'd say its likely just normal dieback. The fruit should still grow if you still have healthy leaves.

It is normal for the older leaves to expire as they reach the end of their cycle.
Just keep the rest of your plant as green and healthy as you can and your fruit will continue to gain pounds daily.
There is good advice on an early thread at http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=126346
Good luck/Glenn

Thank you for the advice. I hope it is due to age and not disease. I cant control the aphids. I hope they dont kill it. I have a few small spots of downy mildew but I have been treating for insects and mildew since june.
