I found a baby pumpkin on my plant and i was wondering if u should cover it like u do with more mature pumpkins?

You should keep it, on the plant, only until you feel the pumpkin, of choice, is growing well. That is if you are looking, for the largest fruit you might be able, to finish, on any given plant. Generally they do not need covered until the leaves no longer shade them.
