Alright...another newby question. The main section of my plant has leaves turning yellow and starting to die off. The vine looks fine and further out the vines the leaves are huge. I had a runin with some cucumber bugs but I'm not sure if they had anything to do with it. Any ideas? You can take a look at http://www.fishernetworks.com/GiantPumpkin if you want to see a pic.

From my limited exp. I would guess that it is normal leaf die-off due to old age. The older leaves will yellow, then brown and die off first. I cut them off and dust with captan. Normal plant activity...probably accelerated somewhat by all the extreme heat. Peace Wayne

Don't worry. Happens to most plants. Is very natural.

It could be Powdery Mildew.

What's the white stuff on the leaves/pumpkins? Is that copper dust?

The white dust is Sevin. I had a cucumber bug explosion last week. You should have seen the carcasses all over the leaves. At least it worked! I know Sevin isn't the best remedy but it is all I could find.
Tremor, I looked up a bunch of info on powdery mildew (from some of your posts) and I don't think the leaves have them. They are just turning yellow at the stump but there is no white powder under the leaves. I was initially concerned about mites (?) but did the white paper trick and didn't see any moving specs.
Thanks everyone,
Fish

my leaves turned yellow then died but its from old age and the use chemicals my leaves looked exactly like your yellow and dying as if burnt but my plant is doing great i also read sometimes chemicals can cause phototoxia i think thats what its called but good job with the sevin we did that to there where no survivors left in our patch lol have fun and nice pumpkin.

I have the same problem but it is only the case with one out of three plants (the biggest one). I think it could be lack of Mg, Ca or Fe - chlorosis possibly?

I was just talking with Sambo last night in chat. My 658 Lovelace had about 5 leaves turn brown, wilt and die practically over night. All were older leaves near the stump. I also had a fairly heavy application of sevin dust on them for cuke beetles. My only theory so far is that the older leaves couldn't handle the sevin after it got wet from a light rain. A heavy dew could cause the same thing I guess. No other leaves on my plant are showing such severe damage, but a few are showing some signs of burn. It's the only plant that had sevin on them, and the only one showing any signs of trouble. That was a few days ago and the rest of the plant still looks fine.
