I trimmed the end off of two vines, and now the leaves leading up to where I cut are drooping badly and the vine in the same area is dying. This isn't what I expected. Will my plant survive? (I'm growing Dill's Atlantic Giant and this is my first time!)

is it possible there was some bad stuff on your cutters? This doesnt sound right, I have cut many vines with no problems. A good idea is to soak your tools in a bleach solution, 10% should be enough, but I would use 20% this is something I should do as well, but dont. Also lots of people on here dust any cuts with fungicide powder, probably another good idea. If the vine is truely dying you may want to cut(with clean tool) it back before it gets the whole plant. Im just a rookie, hopefully other more experianced growers will chime in.

Good luck

Gary

the symptoms you are describing aren't from cutting your vine. Your vine shouldn't start dying or wilting. Something else is going on. Check for any diseases or bug infestations that can attack your plant. Jimmy

Ditto Jimmy. I suspect milldew. The timing and weather are perfect, for milldew attack, in Columbus Ohio.

Or Squash Vine Borers. Pruning vines won't cause wilting so the cause does lie elsewhere.

Continuing on my pumpkin growing endeavor, I'm finding that watering usually takes care of the wilting leaves. I did find a picture on here of Squash Vine Borers so I know what they look like. Are there any pics of mildew so I know what to look for?
