Is there anything(except elbow grease) which will keep the grass down in the garden. As careful as I think I am, you can't help but have spray soak down and kill something else. I am considering newspapers to smother them, but I bet y'all know of something else easier-Over the Top, Grass Be Gone,??? my suzy

If it is just grass. Grass Getter with the active ingredient of Sethoxydim will work. The best method is to keep the area clean by cultivating often with a hoe.

Glyphosate herbicides such as Roundup will kill just about everything it touches, and is pretty well de-activated when it gets into the soil. If the grass is real close to your plants, you can apply it with a weed wiper, brush or a sponge. Just make sure you don't get any on your plants. This is the most often used herbicide by farmers and will work well for gardeners, as long as you are careful with where you spray it.

DO NOT OVER THE TOP WITH ROUNDUP!!!!! It will kill everything. She was looking for something she could spray and not kill the pumpkin.

Wow...Shannon's right. She did say "over the top".
Fusliade might be the safest but I still wouldn't do it.
Manual labor under & around the leaves. Roundup carefully directed at low pressure elsewhere.

I use Select Herbicide. One must also use crop oil mixed with this. Poast is also another Herbicide that can be used. I only use Select in my field pumpkin patch. My Giant pumpkins Get the hoe. If I remember It ran about $225/gallon last year....Tom

don't do it!!! hehehe Any poison sprayed near pumpkin plants (atleast in my experience as a hot weather grower) ends up damaging the pumpkin plant, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. The hard way is the old fashioned way, but think of the positive, no pumpkin problems for sure and a great exercise program:)

yeah mulch works very well, black plastic would be easy to apply, cover an area from after growing season until springtime
