Peace, Wayne

Owensboro, Ky.

I noticed today that I have several spots...3-5 foot circles in my patch that have roots visible on the surface. Looks like bean sprouts growing all over. Any ideas what is causing this. Thanks for all the info. Oh yeah, 4 straight days of almost constant rain...not hard but steady. Almost 3" total. Is this water related. Peace Wayne

It sounds like the soil is washing away which exposes the roots. Get some clean soil the same as what is missing & gently recover the roots.

Soil thats constantly wet is appealling to pkn roots (for a while anyway) and in rainy spells its commonplace to see roots shooting up out of the soil.

I think the oxygen is what is appealing to the roots & the constatly wet soil is O2 lacking. That'll send them up too.

Agree with Tremor, Ive never seen roots surface before
after recieveing 130 MM of rain fall in 1 1/2 days after a month of NO rain and temps between 90-100, ive finally seen it happen, around my 721.5 vincent ive got roots comeing out of the soil straight up in the air right from the stump down along the main vine. my yard is now one hudge mud pit. i layered some peatmoss around all the exposed roots to keep them covered as tomouro is going to be in the high 90's again following later into the week.
last thing i want is for the roots to start drying out dureing the heat of the day

Dave
