Hi, Its me again. Im just looking for some ideas on the best type of fertilizer to use now that my pumpkins have set and are starting to grow, They are the size of grapefruits now. I have been using 9-10-15. Do you think i should stick with this or change to another one to enable me to grow a super big one?

Thanks

This depends a bit on the state of your soils. Has a soil test been done pre-season? If so, were there any areas that were below, at or over the norm? Soil Ph, P, K, Ca & Mg are the main areas of concern.

Hey, Thanks for getting back to me so quicky.

I have not done any soil tests at all, I will do that this week.

Is it true that the last number should be higher for better fruit production?

Without knowing what's in your soil to begin with, it's tough to recommend a specific type of fertilizer. If your soil was in perfect balance, then a 9-10-15 would be a good choice now that your fruit has set and is growing. Your plant will need more potassium (potash) to grow the pumpkin. But as Tremor suggested, it really depends on your soil...

Looking for suggestions for locally available, (Lowes, Wal-Mart, Home Depot) high potassium fertilizer. All ideas appreciated. Peace Wayne

Hey Wayne
I always thought Potassium was a finishing fert. Won't it cause the fruit to ripen sooner?
I found a high phos (12-55-6) at the Local Lowes. Super Bloom, made by Green Light. I don't know if it caused the growth explosion or not, but I applied it a few days ago, 4 gallons per plant, and my 905 Ailts went from 0.8 pounds to 7 pounds in two days. 1367.5 Rose went from 1.5 pounds to 6.8 pounds in the same time frame. Of course, this might be normal, since this is my first year, I have no idea.

Try Coccadoodle doo as a granular. I like saying that.
