I covered vines and leaves as the main started to grow. All along I have been losing leaves around the stump area. They rot at ground level and under the ground. Does any one have any ideas why this might be happening? I've been using Don's Langevins fertilizer plan and fish emul. Thanks

sounds like some kind of rot problem if everything is rotting from ground upward.

I would carefully scrape off the dirt around the stump area and replace it with some sterile bagged seed starting mix (prevents damping off). Try to let the stump area dry out. Hopefully you don't have a major rot problem that will spread.

Souinds like either a Fusarium or rhizoctonia type stem rot. Use a fungicide with the active ingredient "Thiophanate-methyl".
Are we sure the leaves aren't infected with Powdery Mildew?
