I'm growing several AG's, that are starting to spread out. What leaf nodes should I bury? Is there a difference between the primary vine and the secondaries with regard to whether to bury them? Is there an optimum spacing of buried nodes? Is there a chance of rotting the vine if a buried vine gets too much water? Thanks, Richard Trout Albany, CA

When burying vines on the main I chose to only cover each leaf node with soil. As for secondaries I trench out a spot ahead of the secondary & once the secondary has grown into the trench I backfill the vine. But make sure the secondary is mature enough to cover. A good way to judge is to not bury the vine until the male flower at each leafnode is at least 3" tall.

We bury everything as it grows, but try and pinch out tertiaries first. If we miss one they allways seem to make themselves known!
