I need to know which leaves are best for mulch that do not carry tannen?

I now use a combination of ground leaves and straw. It seems to be the best of two worlds. The leaves go down first. The straw goes on about three inches deep when fluffed up in application. Rains settle it to maybe an inch or so.
If compost were available like your own or that out of a mushroom house I would use a very light dusting of compost first, then leaves and finally the straw.
