Is it really worthwhile to try and transplant early plantings? I am trying it but it seems that those I have transplanted really aren't doing that great. I have also just planted some seeds in the ground for comparison.If I see no difference, I'll forget about trying to get a jump start next year. Frank of Iowa

I believe that you will only see the difference if you can create a climate for the early transplants to thrive in. Cold frame, soil heating cables, some type of temperature control for the air (lamp, heater) etc.
Even if all you do is provide a cold frame and anything else to keep them from freezing during the night, then you will see a difference.

Plus its not so much what you see going on up aboove. Them roots are running everywhere underneath.
