hey small patch. I bought AG seeds last year from Gurney's. My biggest pumpkin was 195 pounds. I would say look else where. There are too many nice people on this site who I'm sure could help you out with better seeds than Gurney's. This is just my 2 cents worth.

I raised AG for the first time last year. I had two grow over 178 lbs but in more space than 75 Sq ft. Polka Dot is right about looking someplace else. People on this site are very helpful towards beginners, and look at the seed section of this site for higher quality seeds (Much better than seeds from a seed catalog)...Tom

Seeds from catalogs have a reputation of growing pumpkins up to 200 pounds. Get some seed at this site, or Dill's, or Langevin's. Any chance you can enlarge the size of your patch? 800 - 1200 sq.ft. is ideal. I have ordered Neptune's Harvest products for next year. They are reliable and shipped my order quickly.

Thanks for the offer Randy, but I purchased some seeds though the seed auction on this site. 711 Sawtelle and 644 Vezzelo. Ijust read something on the seed exchange board talking about some seeds being better for different regions of the country, I have never heard of this before. Are these seeds acceptable for the Minnesota climate, or is this something I shouldn't worry about.

Small patch,
Although some hot seeds (567 Mombert, 801.5 Stelts, 846 Calai, for example) seem to do good almost anywhere, I have been finding that seeds from a pumpkin that does well in your area, will most likely do good for you. If you'd like to "beef up" your personal best this year, I recommend you go with a seed that has done well in your climate/area. Soil preparation to grow a giant (unless it's already excellent) may take 3-5 years, fertilizing and insect control are ALL factors which must be taken into consideration! Good luck!

kilr is right i like ti plant seeds from growers in my growing zone or from one north of me (being a northern grower i think if i lived in a southern area i would go with my zone or a zone below me in hopes that they would tolerate heat better just a thought

Kilr, So you think that the 801.5 Stelts is a pretty good seed. Maybe that is why my $10 bid on the Ohio Valley Pumpkin Growers seed auction does not seem to be holding up to well.

I think people have alredy paid at least $300 for 1 (801.5)seed already. Take a look at what this seed has produced. That should tell it all! kilr
