Measuring with the OTT method what would be considered as a respectable amount of inches growen per day just so I can get an idea if I am getting a bit keen with the potassium. I guess you can all tell my spelling or typing isnt the best. Brain to small or fingers to big I guess!

Here's a nice average to go by ( it's in circumference not OTT ) Days from pollination Day 9- 15 " Day 14- 30" Day 19- 50" Day 25- 70" Day 31- 90" Day 40- 110" This may be a little low, but it will give you a good idea......Paul

I have set two pumpkins one on the main and one on a secondary just in case the secondary I have stopped the vine at the pumkin so no problems there. On the main vine I cant seem to keep the pumkin from touching the vine if I get really desperate is cutting the vine to stop the pressure the last result. The pumpkin seems to be growing big "shoulders". 50 days to go I cant afford to lose sleep this early on!!!!!

Hi Darky!
One of the most important aspects is positioning the fruit on the vine while it is still moveable. Curving the vine in an "S" past the fruit as the vine grows, gives you some "slack vine" in the future, if you position your vine to be convex where the fruit is, )- (hyphen is your stem), then it will be less likely to grow over the vine. The opposite, (- can be troublesome when the pumpkin gets bigger. If the vines touching your pumpkin are secondaries or tertiaries, you'd be best to cut them off. I'd be more hesitant to cut off the main vine. I have found that by placing narrow pieces of styrafoam between the vine and pumpkin(gently), during the heat of the day when vine is supple, this will keep the vine off of the fruit. Make sure you've cut any "tap roots" on both sides of the vine by the stem, to loosen vine and alleviate stress!Good luck!

I stuck in what I thought to be a good curve in the vine but it just wasnt a tight enough arc. Will give the foam a go to try to move the vine away a bit. Thanks

so far looking good thanks kilr the foam is doing the job really well measured today OTT 140lb had my hopes of 240lb 30 days to go not sure if it will get there. But I said I would be happy with anything bigger than a basket ball. I have a second pumpkin on a side vine so I guess that will be slowing down tne big one.
