This is another, is it just me? post.
So, driving home through a posh area of the state today I noticed a mix of LED and old fashioned incandescent or halogen bulbs in the streetlights. I was frustrated by what seems to be the endless glare of LED lights which are bright, in terms of glare, but dont really illuminate better. With LED's everything looks black or too washed out to even register with my eyes. And so back to driving through this ritzy area I could see the old style lights really do provide good quality illumination with less glare. I don't think its all in my head or in my eyes getting worse, it seems maybe we;ve settled on an inferior product in terms of visibility. What do you think about the wholesale conversion to LED?
I wonder if any accidents or deaths are attributable to this. https://transitjam.com/2020/03/28/brighter-street-lights-cause-more-accidents/

I don't like them either. They do save a ton of electricity though which I guess is all that matters or so I am told.

They've moved to LED bulbs here too. I prefer them since (to me) it is more lit rather than the dim, orange tint of the old bulbs. I assume they are LED since they light up fast when turned on, and I think halogen take a few mins to brighten up.

They make ok Christmas lights and they aren't too bad for growing plants. But as far as general lighting the younger generation will never know the entire feel of the streets and cities, even personal living spaces, used to be different. But thats an old song that goes all the way back to kerosene or whale oil or beeswax (which is indeed superior to paraffin). Our technology sometimes makes things better, other times just cheaper.

LED lights are my cup of tea. I enjoy them in every way. From their energy savings, to their instant on & their capacity to be as bright as the manufacturers want to make them, & the fact they can be made to be dimmable, I believe LED lights are a true step forward. Munafactureres could also manufacture them to last nearly forever. Alas, that is not in their economic interest.

research is being done for LED roadlights especially the higher strength ones. Also being blamed for loss of amount of stars you can see and affecting satellite imagery.

LED lights are fine it is the selection of the street lights being used. A lot of the lights on the poles are very blue in color (5000 to 6000k) and bad for vision good for efficiency. WIth the right color toward the warmer colors they are good for lighting street but less efficient. Also the utility pole mounted ones are owned by electric companies and provide poor quality fixtures.
