Were you happier before or after these useful little gremlins decided to make your hand their home...?

Never owned one and when I say that even some young people will tell me never to get one and never have had a person tell me they were glad to have one. I value my freedom.. My sister has one for picture taking and I am considering one for that. No plan still allows for 911 calls.

I thought I was the only one who never has had a cell phone. I see it as an intrusion, not a convenience. I am sure I am happier without one.

My kids bought me one for Christmas, so far I have only used it for listening to music and taking pictures. In the past few years I have felt left behind with out one. Restaurants want you to scan an icon to get their menu, Doctors appointments want you to call from the parking lot to avoid the waiting room. It is not a stretch to see a future where you can pretty much do nothing with out one. Bart that is a good term for them! LOL

Good points...especially the electronic leash one. Also, when using the internet I prefer to read some things on a decent screen and to type some things on a decent key board. For phone calls and being available...a phone which needs to be re-charged once a week is fine. Last but not least, always try to be and to stay the smart part, beware to keep your gut feeling an abdominal one, not an app-dominated one.

You know, 20 years from now someone will say, "the older I get the more I like my smartphone, works great, never causes seizures..." (Elon's brainchip phones will turn smartphones into trusted "old technology".) :)

But yes thats the best part about getting old is realizing how my real needs are quite modest. The list of fancy or newfangled things that I know I don't need, keeps getting longer...

They're not just phones. The smartphone is a phone, camera, calculator, magnetic compass, level, GPS device, scanner, bar code reader, dictionary, encyclopedia, flashlight, magnifying device, game console, calendar, step counter, police radio scanner, star locator, voice recorder, email device, thermometer and much much more. Try carrying all that stuff in your pocket. As for a leash, you can see who is calling and you don't have to answer. What could be better?

It's a tool like any other, it is all in how you use it. Too many are addicted to it.

still have a landline, my cell is for emergencies and long distance calls only, no internet and no texting. If I want internet I use the computer and I don't text.

My land line tells me who is calling, my brain calculates for me(use it or lose it) and my non gps eyes do not drive me into lakes or up mountainside roads and leave me hanging over a cliff!!! And my body does not have built in apps so another person can stalk me!!!

Like they say it is with our own brains, I only use 5% of my smartphones potential. I tried to find a heat-sensing infrared app but none looked promising and I didnt want to download a bunch of garbage. Often times the time and effort it takes, free isnt really free.

Funniest movie I've ever seen, (next to Talladega Nights), >>> JEXI <<<, is exactly about a guy having to get the latest smart phone and not being 'smart' about it, which enables 'her' to take over his life, in an extremely comical weigh; I'll never care about movie ratings, written by idiots with NO sense of humor (LOL); Sadly, my impression of smart phone usage(*)... (I'll give it credit for that it CAN be used as an intelligently and versatibly-wielded device, of course); My ver·sa·til·i·ty with my computer has exhibited that 'versatibly' is NOT a word. There. I lernt sumthin'. (*)...Anyway, is that people are more engrossd in pretending to have something 'going on' with their 'status symbol' of a SP than saying 'Hi' or even acknowledging whom or what is going on around them than ever. Even commercials depict one's nose buried in one and bumping into city buildings due to the size of their signal, lol; Worst of all is when anyone, usually some guy much bigger than I, lol, stops right in my weigh to diddle, yes, diddle on his 'Smart Phone'. Never know - he may be doing something very 'ver·sa·tile' with it. IDC - outta my weigh! I, myself have a flip phone always 'off' or if it's 'on', it's on 'Silent'. SEE JEXI !!! Later---eric g

Just found this interesting piece, sort of belongs to that topic (even though there isn´t a pumpkin grower involved, as far as I can tell).
