Every year i get a flu shot and i get the flu;
This year i did not get a flu shot and I didnt get the Flu?
Maybe its in another state, but i have not heard of anyone in Cali so far

Flu spreads less easily than coronaviruses, so the masks, distancing, ect have an even bigger impact on the flu.

Combine that with the international travel restrictions, and the natural southern winter reservoir (last summer for us) wasn't imported as heavily this time.

It's not just flu diagnoses that are down this year, but it's all respiratory viruses. Masking, social distancing, etc. have had a big effect on transmission rates. Expect all the viruses to be back after restrictions are relaxed.

When you say you get the flu every year, do you have diagnosed flu infections or are you self diagnosing a respiratory infection as flu?

If people around me have the flu and they tell me what there symptoms are; I get the same thing.

I'm not too pessimistic, I think things will get back to "normal". We might just be dealing with some (hopefully very low) level of coronavirus well into the future.

Seems like they ought to mix all the flu variants into one vaccine rather than trying to guess which one specific variant you will encounter. I believe the flu vaccine still contains mercury. They say its "harmless mercury". Do I believe them? Well if its harmless, why do they put it in there in the first place. It's a preservative right so that means it must kill something. Talking out of both sides of their mouth I think.

Flu evolves. The people who make the vaccine have to make an educated guess RE: what the major seasonal variant will be when they make the vaccine. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There was a recent case where the variant they picked wasn't stable in the eggs they manufacture the vaccine in so the vaccine didn't work out as planned. A lot of very smart people are trying to make a universal flu vaccine that is less susceptible (or resistant to) seasonal changes, but it's challenging work.

Dose matters. It's not safe to rapidly drink multiple gallons of water. That doesn't mean water is highly toxic.

Do you think people are getting caught up with just the death numbers and not looking at the long term effects this probably will have. Doctors are reporting higher than normal problems from people who survived. I have seen stories on organ trouble, possible severe mental problems and now maybe diabetes. What will this do to the life expectancy along with health issues down the road?

It will be a while until we really understand the magnitude of the effects of COVID on survivors. Deaths and cases are a lot easier to track and quantify.

I would put myself in that category spudder. Viral diseases can be nasty because the body has trouble getting the viral load to zero I think. It would be very interesting to see the long term trends. Unfortunately with all those billions spent, no one is tracking all the info on who got what vaccine. I read a legitimate article on it but unfortunately probably wont be able to find it.

Old Rook, I have had the flu 3 times since 1990 and when I get it, it’s the full blown Man-flu. I’m talking not moving for 5 days, temps of 104, and borderline hallucinations. I also haven’t had a cold in 3 years, but when I do it’s the Man-cold, and I let everyone within 1 mile know how bad it is. And then I tell them again when it’s over.

I had the original swine flu that came around years ago. When you ran for the washroom, did not know whether to sit or kneel first. Lost a lot of weight and when I went back to work about 2 weeks later I was very pale for a few weeks. Took quite a while to get my strength back to what it was. Would not wish it upon anybody.
