Was just thinking, why didnt they use the emergency alert system to ask people to reduce their power usage? If I got a text that said "please reduce your power usage or the whole grid may go down" then I'd be like "no problem, I'll turn some things off and burn some more wood instead". (Not everyone has that option but MOST people could turn off SOME THING and some people like myself could cut their power usage to nearly zero.) It seems like we have forgotten the power of a manageable sacrifice for the greater good. Perhaps on the surface that is too socialist a mindset... but somehow I think Texans could have come through for each other.

I agree that the commoner is low on the food chain. There is a lot of simmering anger out there. I am against the media lynching thing though because I dont think its healthy.

Not hiding in Mexico, not tweeting and laughing at a disaster in a state but acting like a very good President should. Definitely a huge change in the right direction after the last disastrous classless act. But you can only find this out by reading legitimate news not tin foil hat sites.

What people are forgetting that Texas set up its own power grid so that they would not be dependent on the federal government. The politicians failed to make sure that the grid was properly maintained.

Utilities arent THAT partisan. The people in charge are probably a mix of both Donkeys and Elephants.

Emergency notifications (text message alert) could be used very effectively in scenarios like this. I think they have this for tornados... It could be extended to "emergency preservation of the power grid."
