Freedom Is Just Another Word For Noting Left To Lose

Have you ever researched someone famous? I looked up Mark Knopfler a month or so back after listening to one of their songs on the radio. I'm truly amazed at how much this man has done in his life time.
He is the singer and lead guitarist of the band Dire Straits. He not only perform the songs but also wrote them. In the 90's when MTV Europe launched, it did play Money For Nothin as its first song. I really enjoy his gravely voice and crisp guitar playing. I smiled the whole time I was learning about him. He has lived a dream life and in my opinion has enjoyed every minute of it. Mark also managed to keep himself grounded and focused throughout his life. Anyways, who have you enjoyed learning about.

Leadbelly and the effort made to record those artists like him . Some of the classic rock songs are really old.

I read a Pirate Looks at Fifty by Jimmy Buffett, and the man has had a great life. Bar hopping the Caribbean islands and Florida Keys flying his own boat plane, showing up singing at random beach bars, and fishing while doing it. Being able to constantly be in the Caribbean and Keys would be the perfect life for me. He even crashed his plane once in Massachusetts and his biggest regret was lost Stripers he’d caught.

Spudder, I listened to "where did you sleep last night" and "Black Betty" after reading your post. I enjoyed those two songs and started looking into adding some of his music into my CD collection. I have somewhere between 1200 and 1300 cd's and enjoy learning about people that have influenced modern bands. I always wonder how they discovered them since those early recordings seem so rare or kind of hard to find. I also read Wikipedia to see what they had to say about him. Interesting life and story. Sounds like he was either entertaining people in prison or was outside of prison entertaining. I also thought he would sound like Robert Johnson and I was wrong. Two totally different styles and better recordings. Thank you for the reply.

Luke, Jimmy Buffett is a top notch entertainer. He has lived the American dream and made lots of money enjoying what he does. I read an article about him while in flight in one of those airline magazines in the back of the seat. The one thing he said that stuck with me was "who else can go to work wearing flip flops". I really enjoyed his early records that my dad exposed me to. I had never seen him in concert. I guess I'm not a true Parrot Head. Sailing and flying around the Caribbean islands and Florida would be fun for a little while for me. I'm not much for the heat and humidity myself. Thank you for the reply.

Jimbo, I worked In Reykjavik Iceland in my 20’s, and that was when I got into Jimmy Buffett. I was living the exact opposite of what he was singing.

as far as I know most of the rock singers from the 50's and rock bands from the 60's and 70's were were very much influenced by the southern scene and most would have been influenced by what was around when they were growing up. I believe the British rock bands were influenced by listening to the southern radio stations when conditions allowed the signal to travel. those rockers were very aware and into the history of music. One of the best radio shows I have heard was by one of BTO's leads and was called "Randy's Vinyl Tap". he would tell stories and such about musicians that he met and rode on tour buses with. Sure interesting when you hear those old time artists start into what they experienced.

Luke, you have had a colorful life and I bet your story is amazing as well. You've been to a lot of places which I find interesting. I don't want to sound like a creeper or come across weird or strange, but I'd like to learn more about you. Kind of like a biography. I'd like to learn more about different people on this forum after reading their journals. I see some of the gardens and am in awe. A few years ago someone wanted to or considered making trading cards of different growers and I thought that would have been a neat idea. Maybe an idea for another thread. Breath of fresh air maybe?

Smallmouth, I would like to see a thread with you and some of the other people who work in the financial industry discussing the markets, and what happens when it is pulled back. This would not be an advice thread but opinion thread that is not written in stone. Kind of a teaching on the different scenarios. If not doable, I understand you wanting to tread lightly.

Thank you Jimbo, I have a feeling there are a lot of people on here with very interesting stories. Mine just happened in a lot of different spots. It would be nice to here more stories about folks rather than infighting. And I agree, some of the gardens and views on here are great. Porkchop's is one that comes to mind.
Spudder, I'll always partake in conversations on here. I just try to hold back with anything work related. A lot changed with transparency after 2008-2010, and given this is the internet, it's one of the few times I try keeping my mouth closed.

Spudder, I did buy the lead belly Important Recordings 1934-1949 cd. I looked around for the most bang for my buck and settled that one. It's missing a few songs but I believe it will hold me over.
Smallmouth, I agree with pictures of Porkchops gardens. If I were to take a guess I would say that there is some landscaping or nursery experience or knowledge. Always very impressive. I'd also take another stab in the dark and say that photography is another skill on the farm.

Jimbo01, you have good instincts and I think I can add to Luke’s BIO for you as I know he has also serviced his country abroad in the Military and for that we all owe him a gratitude of thanks.
Seriously, thanks for your service Luke.

North Shore, never served in the military. I worked with the Department of the Navy overseas as a civilian. I took a job with the government after that for a number of years. I definitely see how that could be misleading.
Hope you all have a great holiday!
