Many of us seek free manures. Some of us build and maintain compost piles. Nearly all of us do some foliar feeding with fish, kelp and possibly molasses.

My advise to any first year grower is to go with what is free. Try to get some manure and or compost in the soil. Use a little organic 4-2-4 from or like that sold by Fretrell. Start and maintain a compost pile for 2005 fall use.

Grow two plants this year, to get the feel, for this hobby, if you have a 1000 sq feet, of garden available.

Your insecticides and if needed your fungicides can come from any large garden chemical display. Most displays offer several choices. These items are also on line but I find them less expensive in most instances on the local market.

There are many opinions and options you may consider when you learn as you grow. All of the above suggestions have been good ones. Investigate and snoopp around a bit. Go with what you feel you can handle, in budget, and just get one or two growing to test the wind.
