some 0-0-62 at Agway that came in plain brown bag. I put some in water overnight & it did dissolve. Should I be getting brave with this fertilizer at this point or wait or just not play with fire??? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

First post goofed!! Some rookie questions: I have an approx 60” fruit that’s been growing a fairly consistent 3” per day. I bought some 0-0-62 at Agway that came in plain brown bag. I put some in water overnight & it did dissolve. Should I be getting brave with this fertilizer at this point or wait or just not play with fire??? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

i'm reading more and more from experienced growers that they avoid it! It seems to slow or stop fruit growth with that high amount. It can very easily BURN!! Like I said i'm reading more that people are using ferts with a high potash not all potash IE: 10-10-30, or 15-15-30. From experience, last year i applied a very small amount or murate of potash 0-0-60 near my stump and first few secondaries, then 2 days later, all leaves burned up and died, did nothing for the fruit! You'll get more responses but I'd avoid it!

Talking with Kenny yesterday about this and he did the same thing one year and burned his leaves white. He suggested staying away from it.

I added about a 1/4 cup to 225 gallons of water in my drip system, this is only the second time I have done it. I did it 3 weeks ago too. I had a growth spurt of 32 pounds in one day, though I believe it may have been because I cut & buried the main vine the same day. My pumpkin is now 212 pounds. If you were to use it I heard now is the time but don’t use to much, you don’t wana push it! Doeski

Doeski's post is very useful. Note the low rate was appropriate for his situation (either by luck or proper calculation). If we carefully calculate the area to treat in size, make the rate decision based on real soil test data, then fully dilute the desire quantity in a safe amount of water, great gains can be made without negative recourse.
I'll continue to say this until the cows come home:
RATE, RATE, & RATE!!!

Thanks everyone for your responses, guess I won't mess with the dynamite for now. Another question.......In looking throught some pictures on the site, I see that some people cut off the main vine just past their pumpkin; others let it keep going. Anyone have opinions on that? Thanks again.
