I don't know if these herbicides have been evaluated for root damage to Atlantic Giants. Since AGs aren't a valued cash crop, my gut says it's not likely.
Dinitroanaline herbicides have been tested. Some root injury is to be expected with these only if over applied.
The way pre-emergent herbicides increase crop yield is by reducing competition & pest harborage in commercial field pumpkin crops where the cost of application is much cheaper than the cost of hand weeding or the losses anticipated when weeds aren't managed at all.
Since we're growing competition grade fruit for hobby, most serious growers won't chance root loss to herbicides.
