Has anyone ever tried making their own fish fertilizer? I'm thinking about giving it a try this winter. http://theunconventionalfarmer.com/recipes/fish-fertilizer/

Bury it, or compost it for better results.

I freeze my winter fish carcasses in 5 gallon buckets and then turn them upside down in the garden. After fermenting for a while I lift the buckets and bury the carcasses then till them in shortly after. Grew my largest pumpkin this summer in the poorest soil but the most carcasses. Critters my like to dig after the carcasses. If you have a week stomach dig the holes next to the bucket before emptying..lol

Instead of messing with the stink, I just bury the fish remains deep enough so critters don't dig them up. I credit the fish for growing my state record long gourd after my garden flooded, I hope I can get in enough early trout and crappie fishing in April to supply my patch with plenty of heads and guts.

I made the lactobacillus last winter. It was a pretty neat experiment. I used it in the patch and in my compost pile with no I'll affects. I'm going to make a new batch of lacto soon. I'll use it in my fish hydrolysate experiment. The ice is getting thick now so I'm hoping to get out smelt fishing to get the ingredients.
Zeke this is all new to me but I like the idea of trying to make my own ferts and innoculants. I don't have much info to share but here's my email if you can give me some tips Harleyjody8@aol.com Here's a page with lots of info for you to check out. http://theunconventionalfarmer.com

And WE are going to do everything possible to prevent that ..lol. I thought my record would go down this year for sure. Best growing weather nova Scotians have seen in years but the pumpkins were not even close.I hope the weather is as good next summer as it was in 2017. GOOD LUCK..:)
