Hello Eileen

1. Keep the stump dry always
2. I usually let some of the small pumpkins pollinate when its pollination time for the ones I want. Get's the plant in the mood. After my pumpkins are set, I pinch them all off. I will also be pinching off unneeded flowers shortly after. Do this when they first appear rather than cut them later. it reduces the chance of disease getting started in a wound.
Cut the tap root when you need to move the vine. Its ok until then.

Thanks so much for your reply Kevin I just came in from pollinating my
first 10 ft on main vine. I have another growing on main vine at 14 ft. so
hopefully I'll have another. I see fresh vole activity this morning so
it's causing me concern. Best regards Eileen

Kevin, I am in the middle of making room for a pkn that I want to grow. Moving secondaries away from Big Ole Pkn!! When I have been moving secondaries, I pull up gently, and tap root seems to be intact...I gently put secondary down, and cover & water. ? is...will tap root survive in it's new location. Peace, Wayne
