I have some left over Azos from last year, anyone know how well this stuff keeps?

Ron, I don't know for sure but the temperature at which it has been stored is key.
If it is a year old it may have lost 50 % of it's activity.
You could gamble on 50% activity & see what results you get.

Thanks for the reply. It had an expiration date on the bag but I must have torn it off opening it. Stored in basement, hmmmmm?

My experience with Azos.

I normally plant about 30 AG and mixed Azos with Pro mix (with myco) potting soil. Although the plants germinated, they were stunted and never fully recovered. From seed, my wife planted trays of marigolds which were also stunted but did recover better than the pumpkin.

She was the one that figured out it was my potting soil mix since other marigolds in miracle grow mix were fine.

I recently found Matt DeBacco's research from 2010 which included info on Azos and confirmed my suspicions. I did not know how to post the info here, so I put it in my diary of 1/30/16 under Swaintech. Obviously I will not be dusting my seeds or using Azos in my potting mix this year since most of my plants never really recovered from the slow start last year.

Have any of you had similar problems wh

I added the Azos after setting out the plant and it grew stronger than my untreated plant. Last year was the first time I used it. So far my experience is favorable.

I agree Ron - I added Azos to the soil after my 2nd set of plants were established in the ground and they did well. It appears that using it in the potting soil or near the seed is the problem.

Does anyone have experience of drenching with it on young plants?

I used it as a soil drench after setting the plants out. For me that is 10 days after germination. I only did 1 drench.

I found that adding Azos to the seed makes it germinate fast, but you sometimes see problems where it grows so fast that it rips off a cot leave. I found that putting the Azos about 3/4 of the way down in the pot seems to work best.

I don't think anyone uses more Azos as a drench or in vine burying mixtures then me and I have never seen any stunting or "I'll" effects.

Interesting info Jamie and Ron - When the plant is established and vines running I also use Azos in my vine burying mix with no problems.

When the stunting happened last year, I first thought I had a bad batch of potting soil. I talked to the manager of the garden shop where I bought the potting soil and he said he had not heard of any problems - he offered me another bale but I refused since I felt it had cost me most of my best seeds for 2015.
Only after reading Matt DeBacco's presentation on Azos did I conclude that Azos may have been the Problem.
I am not bad mouthing Azos but thought iI would post so that bp members are aware of what happened.
I wish I had taken pictures of the stunting. The trays of my wife's marigolds using same seeds, planted same day in same greenhouse with and without Azos were dramatic.

Azos. Is like Frank's red hot sauce... Never had any issues even during germination... Heck I even soak my seeds in a mixture that has Azos. Mine normally pop soil in 2 to 3 days.
