when spraying under the plant do you use the highest dose on the label? do you use a additive for over spray? I sprayed spectracide weed killer even though I was careful and sprayed with no wind. the tip of one of my plant layed down and stopped growing and a few leaves bent over leafs are fine but the stock seem to get damaged

never ever ever use 2,4-d
when in and around plants use only glysophate and stay away from young growing ends

2-4d drifts very easy. Also if conditions are right, and there is no wind, the spray will actually linger in the air, which may have been the issue.

The kill is from Quinclorac one of the ingeredents in spetracide. Quinclorac has a residual on dry soil like yours for 30 days. 2,4-D has a half life but you would not have the same effect on the vine 2,4-D would effect the leaves. If your using roundup make sure it's the weekend warrior residential grade. One little squirt of commercial grade roundup I use like Transorb on the foliage will shut down the root system.

use quarter strength of spectracide, it will take longer for weeds to die but it should do the trick

I never spray weed killer under the plant, 18 inches from the plant boarder with roundup on a zero wind speed day is my limit. If the plant does get hit with roundup drift it typically bleaches the leaves but ive never seen it shut down the vine itself, and NEVER has it Seemed to have any affect on some other area of the same plant.

You have to be careful with some of the Roundup formulations that have residual herbicides, I go to the farm store and get the agricultural grade 41% glyphosate. You can dilute it to the strength you want. 1 gallon is around $25 and 2.5 gallon jugs are around $45. I get the bigger jug because I use it on my deer food plots, garlic mustard and multiflora rose control in my timber. One gallon would last for a couple years for the average city gardener.

T spray around and under leaves I use a box. I put sprayer tip in box (open box at both ends)and spray that way. This keeps it from getting anywhere but in the square of the box. I just walk along with the box sparying. So far, no damages.

the point is....READ THE LABEL.
Many current formulas have a residual effect as Spambie and Iowegian have stated. Some even include 2-4D which will gas off for days.
LB has a great idea to keep overspray or drift from occurring, a funnel taped to the sprayer works well too, but it won't stop residuals.
Anything but glyphosate is playing with fire. If you have been successful using them, you have been lucky.
And you should use the recommended dose Rick, using a lighter dose has a chance of making the weed resistant because it doesn't kill completely.
