Suppose to be in the 100's the next four days..ugg. My poor plants just cant take any more, last week in the 90's. I wonder when is the best time to water your patch, early morning before sun gets hot, during the heat of the day, thru overhead or t tapes. I have been misting, but the patch could use a good rain. No rain for a week, and have been keeping patch moist and want to make sure of that. So and advise for me? I have had some leaf burn and pollination has been iffy.

I havent had rain in weeks here, maybe a sprinkle here and there.

I came home today to my entire squash plant wilting bad at 11am....ran about 60 gallons thru my Micro Spinklers and she perked up.

Time to set the timer for 3-4 times a day.

How much water and how often are others watering during these temps?

At the peak of our heat wave...I started the over heads at 0900 AM. 15 minute periods rotating between 4 impulse heads 5 plants side by side. At noon time I manually drenched them....they made it through it....they look rough, but still growing.....keep them wet!

Same here, we set records here we haven't had in over 50 years... 108 yesterday, 107 today, and more to come with zero clouds. I have a had some new leaves literally burn off (dry up completely). I thought I was going to pollinate this morning, but she never opened and the tophat flower looked like it had melted. I am putting up a giant tent tonight over the plant and keeping 100% shaded till this ends.

That being said, I have been able to keep it moist when I water once in the morning (time permitted), at night before bed, and I have been going home for lunch each day to run the soakers for 10 minutes as well.I still have a good feeling about the season though, thanks for the rant and good luck!

109 here today and about 6 days over 100. Without a shade net your only chanse are misters. On days like these you can run em every 10 minutes for 30 sec to a minute. You have to make sure that the leaves dry inbetween mistings so they are not completely wet all the time. If you can combine shade net with misting then thats even better, just hold in account that a full day of misting also puts down several gallons of water, and wet top soil can grow algea in humid and hot condtitions. You can water in the morning, mid day and evening,,spread out over three times. Or choose between morning or evening. Just our two cents.

Thanks Cooks, we just aren't used to this extreme stuff like the southern states. Funny though that Missouri joins the SEC in just 2 days... irony?

here in rhody during the really hot days ? i overhead each plant for about 10-15 minutes 4-6 times from noon on.
very little leaf damage.
its good to be retired. im the timing system.

Frank, 109, gosh dang! I have been running an over head a few times during the hot of the day, seems to help a little. I did pollinate the other day and kept the female under cover with ice bottles and a fan on her...we shall see what happens.

So I can just hand spray with a hose in the middle of the day? I thought that would burn leaves further? I don't have misters, and I ask cause I don't have a clue. I'd like to save some of the burnt leaves. Thanks

yes Luke you can spray them lightly, We have son doing it now that he is on summer break (hey it worked for the brysons). We just have him run the hose long enough the water ain't scalding hot and spray them down. Look at Glenna's (Nana Rea)diary, another option for shading multiple tips at once.

crazy high, 90's here. And as humid as an in door swimming pool. Trying to get anything done is miserable for this indoor cat.
know I'm grateful for watering system. I'm not to impressed with the micro sprinklers. Most all of my cooling of the kin's is done by a overhead lawn sprinkler on timer at 11,1;30,3&4:30.

I have a question what is the average amount of water you give them. What is your average watering every other day or every day? Especially lately in northern ohio we have been having hi 80's to 90's even 100 degrese!
