Wondering on roots that grow on secondary vines. How far will these roots spread out? I want to know where to water and avoid walking on areas that have roots.

Big Joe, they will go off the tap roots through out the entire allotted area and beyond. Every square foot of my 1100 square feet had small fibrous roots in it like a huge sponge. I systematically laid boards out early on and kept them in those spots while trying to stay as far back as I could from the main and secondaries, but still had access to them. In July, dig down anywhere in the patch and you will see what I am talking about. People don’t grow 1800 pounds with just a few roots.

The roots cover your entire patch and beyond. At the end of the year I have pulled a few tap roots and followed them about 15 feet before they got too small to simply pull up out of the ground and they broke. I didn't continue digging to see how much futher they went.
