Gads posted earlier that fish emulsion will burn the plants if foliar applied. Is this really true? Last year all eight of my plants died with a pale yellowing but seemed to continue to grow verrrrry slow. They were all very nice looking till a week or so after I bumped up the Nitrogen during vining. Could the fish emulsion have been the culprit?....Tom

I drench only, straight to the root system, and never on the stump.

I am applying one ounce of fish product per gallon of water (presently two gallons per plant)by sprinkling can. This is a combination of foliar and drench. The leaves drop the runoff to the natural root pattern. This is in rotation with kelp and a liquid (presently 9-18-9) to favor flower development. There is another supplement that changes almost weekly in the rotation. That brings the fish around every eight days. This is my attempt at easy, slow and even foliar fertilization. My attempt to eliminate peaks and valleys in feeding. My fish and kelp is reduced to 1/2 label low suggestion usage because the total of all will still be over the low suggested rates but below the highest suggested rates. None of the organic products have ever burned my pumpkin leaves or any other that I am aware of.
I run the same applications on tomatoes, lettuce, onions, peppers, cabbages and cucumbers. And I add my home made tea as a supplement along with or in addition to depending on my whim. I watch the leaves. They lighten up a little I may give them an even weaker application of tea through the irrigation system as an extra.
These pumpkins are very sensitive! They hear footsteps they perk right up expecting a cup of tea. That wasn't in the book. :)
Never is a tricky word but when applied early morning or late evening away from the hot sun I do not think I have ever experienced a chemical type burn using organic products.

I'm using 5-1-1 fish emulsion that has also aged a year {whew!} I apply it to the roots as well as foliar; haven't had any issue so far. BE CAREFUL; don't mix it any different than what it calls for or you will have issues.

Ya all should read: "Best and cost effective", under the post of Mr.T in this category.
Four guys and I are going fishing this weekend. That will be about a five gallon bucket of waste. Within three weeks it will be in the compost pile. I can't keep it long in hot weather due to close by neighbors. I lime it up good as it is going into the pile and burry it by tilling in and covering it about a foot with compost.
