This year I obtained a 1,500 gallon tank with a lid to collect rain water from my roof. Do I need to add something to the water in the tank to keep algae from forming? Is there something I need to add to keep the water clean and fresh?

I paint mine black(the tank!) It keeps the sun light out so the algae won't grow.Also helps warm the water.

Water tank algae growth will raise the water pH. Last year I was astonished to find some of my tanks approached 9.0(YIKES)after sitting for a few days in the sun.

I have never researched any effects to plants watering with this type of water of higher pH water.

You could add a bubbler to increase oxygen.

Wow, how many cans to spraypaint, to paint a 1500 gallon tank? LOL But I agree, lack of sunlight means lack of algae growth!!! Peace, Wayne
