Another question from the greenhorn: I believe I will be pumping water from a nearby stream to a holding tank near my patch and watering from it. Any suggestions as to the best/ most cost-effective way to deliver the water? I know there are lots of fans of drip tape here.

Gardnerhillbilly Great question, as a new grower with the same question I have been waiting for a response as well. I am concerned with lack of pressure, will see what others with experience post.

I put a 280 gallon tote up about 8 feet high to make me a water tower. It worked just fine to run drip tapes for two plants. Did't have enough pressure for a timer.

This year, I'm using two 55 gallon rain barrels, which are about 15' above garden level (hilly yard), for my two on-site plants. If I hit a dry spell with no rain, I supplement water into the rain barrels from my kids' non-chlorinated kiddie pools, or from the creek in my back yard.

Last year we had good luck using 300 gal H2O totes which we hooked up to a gas operated H2O pump.We then attached a filter and pressure regulator.Then we added a ball valve so we could divert the H2O to either the misters or whizzers.I used 3/4 inch tubing from the ball valve (Y-splitter)so I had 2 different lines and used 1/4 inch tubing to the misters.Really worked great,and we would detach the H2O pump to pump the H2O from the totes at our home collecting from the gutters to a tote in a trailer to our patch which has no electricity or H2O.

At our seminar we had a irrigation professional speaking on drip irrigation. He said to use a drip system from a tank, it will need to be 18.5 feet higher than your tapes in order to get 8 psi. If you can't get your tank that high, you may not get water to all your tapes.

Hi Zappa, I actually was in attendance for your seminar (fantastic afternoon, by the way!) and did learn that unfortunate information there! I'm still trying to figure out my water delivery method....pretty big sticking point right now
