could a pumpkin grow in a mixture of seaweed and hen poop only? if not, what % earth would be required? ( seaweed and hen poop are free here but top soil is rare and expensive) p.s sand is free 2.

Mr T, I know poultry poop is high in nitrogen and tends to cause aborts at fruit set time. The seaweed after rinsed of salt would be good for your plot. Experiment and let us know your results. Steve

Mr. T,

A grower from over here in Pa. grew on a big sand mound, and was virtually weedless. (Bill Fornof) I think you'd just have to step up your fert program!

Hi...My pumpkin patch consists entirely, of decomposed horse manure. I do mix in some peat moss and potting soil at the planting site. Mine grow and are healthy but so far 192 pounds is my heaviest. Horse manure, however is not as hot as hen.....I have not had any fruit aborts.
