Should I add a bunch of nitro?

If you've prepared your soil well, then you really shouldn't have to make any drastic fertilizer moves... Young plants rely mostly on Phosphorus for root growth followed by nitrogen for green plant growth and lastly Potassium for fruit growth near the end of the season. Whatever you do, just do it in small increments and you'll be safe. Best regards, Michel in Hotlanta

I'd hit it with a little water soluble fert, like some type of Miracle Grow or Peters or whatever, to get it going.

If you add to much nitrogen it will make it harder to get it to lay down. It will also make it brittle. I found that out when I broke my husbands vine in half. Read these http://www.mainepumpkins.com/howto3.html http://www.hollandsgiants.com/fertprogram.html

Stick to your plan... They are probably just needing some favorable weather.

Capt'n, I was in the same boat last week. I plied the water on the plants, about 2 hours a day with a soaker hose. They are now at about two to three feet and growing ok. Water seemed to help anlong with fertilizer. I am not a beliver in letting a plant sit at this point. Some risks have to be taken, especially here in Colorado. We just dont have enough warm fall days to make up for time lost right now. We will never make the 4th of July date but maybe by the 15th if all goes well.
