Someone told me that putting large amounts of Aluminum Solphate on the garden isnt safe.

Is this true. I have been butting the stuff on to lower the ph in my soil. I put 20 pounds per 1000 sq ft. ( have done this many times over the last 3 yrs.

hey aaron,anything goes in boulder.Aluminum is detrimental(toxic) at some level.Since its a metal,you can't get rid of it if the levels get too high.use strait sulfur or ammonium sulfate with leaves. p.s. see ya at the bar tomorrow

On the next soil test make sure to specify that you want an Aluminum test with the other micros. Most labs will charge extra for micros so ask first.

Al suphate can be toxic as Joe states but it has one great advantage in that it can change the soil pH instantly. Used in moderation with a tested program is your best bet.

Easy with that stuff, it can easily tie up several of your nutrients by throwing your pH out of wack. It is toxic and phytoxicity may result on your plants. My advice is to take it easy with trying to change soil pH. Colorado doesn't require increases in soil pH, we are already high (pH that is!) Ammonia sulfate or Ammonia Thiosol will microscopically lower pH and make several micro nutrients available in the soil. Sulfur will help mine the soil for these nutrients. I'll stop now as I tend to get way to technical...Remember, too much of a good thing is not always good for you.
