I see that I am going to have to move beyond my "mix in a bucket and dump it on" method of fertilization. So, what do you folks mean when you say that you are going to "run some *** through the system"? What sort of mechanism is required to get ther fertilizer into the watering system? I am using a soaker hose at present. It the equiptment expensive? Advice would be great! Thanks in advance. Patience

Go out and get a schultz garden sprayer hooks right to your hose. You can get one for the soaker hoses to, but they tend to clog the hose.

Is there any way to unclog a soaker hose?

The best way to unclog your soaker hoses is to turn the water pressure up as high as it will go for a couple of minutes then uncap the end and let it run out then turn you water off and recap the end and repeat the process again. Do this several times and it should expand the hose enough that it will let whatever is in the hose go through it. There is a couple of other ways to do it but I have found this way to be the best for me. Also I just double the end and put the cap back on instead of turning the water off and on.

Go to DripWorks.com and look at filtration and magnetic treatment to prevent plugging up of watering systems.
