I have a timer on my sprinkler pump that will water for 10 minutes at 9am 12pm 3pm and 6pm, I had thought of letting it run some at night..do any of you water at night? or is it better to stick to daytime to reduce the stress? or does it matter either way?? thanks!!

I've never watered at night but water in the early evening so the leaves will dry off in time for foliar feeding.
I'd be worried about PM but have never really thought about night watering....guess it rains at night sometimes so it can't be all bad.

watering at night can cause some mold issues especially if you live in a humid climate

In my humble opinion, no serious watering should take place from 5pm until the next day 8am. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for some serious splits. No, you can't control mother nature and if she dumps rain on you during the night you have to hope that your plants didn't go to bed too thirsty otherwise they will suck up the rain like crazy an fruit will be more prone to splitting.

I like to water in the morning. The plant receives and stores energy all day. Then it converts to growth in the evening. Good to have a firm base the start of the day. I do water in the heat of the afternoon to cool things down when it is over 90 degrees out.

As much as it's not recommended, I have watered at night for the past two seasons, have I gotten a very large pumpkin, no, and is this the difference, I'm not sure, but it didn't hurt anything. First year, which was last year, I grew a 256 pound pumpkin, not bad for rooky year. However, this year, I am using warmer water than what I was using last year, and it has prooved very helpful in the faster growth. They have been putting on 10 pounds per day and it's been consistent, of course I have been fertilizing them alot more with other stuff this year, and that seems to keep them happy.
Watering at night, flip a coin I guess, as another grower said it does rain at night, but I would be concerned about mildew too.

I water at night religiously. My drip system is perfectly suited for a timer and a good overnight watering gets things fired up the next day.
