i work out of town much of the time.. i leave for work at 4:30 get home at sixish.. whats the problem with evining watering.. is it p.m..i would think the plant has that more time absorbing water..pap.. shoot!

Id suggest finding another job more pumpkin friendly. money is no concern. lol

Seriously if you must water at night then thats what you need to do. Yes, they do sell water timers etc, but im one of those people that had i depended on timers id surely come home to a big puddle in the middle of my best plant or worse all around the fruit.

Id continue to water at 6 pm if you must, just try and water underneath the canopy and try not to get the leaves wet.

I realize most summer mornings the leaves are wet with dew but thats a natural occurance that happens early mornings.

When you get the leaves wet late evening then the problem is they stay wet all night, opening things up for more chance of powdery mildew and disease. (REMEMBER WHEN IT RAINS IT SPORES). My take only.

Not sure how hot it gets there ? but here in so ca ,Watering in morning really helps , but like everyone has said timer ,,

In my situation I don't worry about eveningwatering. I'm in a deep vallye and the plants are usually soaked with dew from sunset until they dry out in the sun. I haven't had any mildew problems on the pumpkins, but I have seen it on gourds.

Watering at night has shown to increase Ca uptake. For some reason the plant want to take up Ca more at night.

I thought that watering at night may increase your chance of developing a mold. The leaves need to dry out at some time during the day.
