The best fertilizer comes from an animals back side. If you dont have the good soil, you can fertilize all you wish. Fertilizers should be used to supplement, not sustain. Sort if like the difference between healthy foods and a jar of vitamins.

Your best fertilizer, I think, would be a "blend". Rich organic matter and manure in the soil is necessary, but most growers have their own "mix" of amendments. Seaweed and fish, foli-cal are both excellent foliar feeds. I would say that any type of root booster is a little too late this year, because you now want fruit growth, not root growth. The key is learning to "read your plant". Nitrogen early on to promote plant growth, cut back before pollination or your plant will be spindly and have poor set, potassium in late July/early August, and don't overdo when the season slows down in Sept. I guess "experience" is the best fertilizer!

Something that has definately pulled me out is buying compost/manure in 50# bas from Home Depot. One grower told me to watch out for bad product, but boy can I tell the difference. Course I've had to work twice as hard cause my plants were in the dirt as it lay (horrors!) before I learned this, so I've been working it in under vines that have not rooted and burying those that have. Really perked things up!
