I know this has already been asked but cant find it. Right now mine are set up every hour from 11-5 and run for 20 min. I think this is to long? My ground temp drops and by the time it comes back up its getting wet again. Also can I fert. every time the misters come on? Thanks Ken

it's not to long if it hot outside that whole time. as for if you watering to much... i think only you can answer that by looking at you patch at the end of the day ? is it soggy wet ? damp ? dry ?
same with the fert... it depends on how much you are putting on (through the system...?) if it is very diluted and at the end of the day you only put on as much as you would have anyway... then i'd say it is OK. I think fert applications vary so much from grower to grower and with individual patch conditions that it is difficult to tell you what you want to know.
go to search and type "misting" the first thing that comes up is a misting article written by Scott Armstrong that has lots of good information on the system he uses.
hope this helps good luck ! gordon

I think it would depend on the GPH of your misters. Even if its a 1 GPH mister with a 3' diameter you are probably watering 1/2 inch a day (minus evaporation of course). I've heard the pros say 1 inch per week is the minimum but 3.5 per week may be to much. If you are using a "watering" mister then it's probably double that. I'm no heavy hitter but if it were me I think I would try 10 minutes and maybe adjust down from there.

what we are trying to accomplish by misting is basically just to get he leaf surfaces wet, no more then that. im a big fan of misting. Depending on the heat of any particular day, i'll make my decision on how long and how much to mist. last year there were times when i was misting for 2 minutes every 15 minutes, but that was extreme. usually i go for 5 minutes every half hour between 11 and 4ish. it also definatly depends on the gph of the misters, and the coverage area.
good luck scott

How much you mist depends on two things- are you using another watering system and-the big one- how much natural rain have you had. After you get to know your dirt you'll know the answer- if you're lucky. Those in the land of clay have a very different reality from those of us who live on giant sand bars. The sand where I live is so fine it cannot be used for concrete or sandboxes (it gets in the kid's teeth!!. Ah, life on "old cape cod".....
