Where, if anywhere, can I buy say Miracle Gro or Peter's or .... in bulk quantities. I find that I am going through the stuff like mad and would like to buy a larger quantity to save money. Are the other brands, like WalMart brand the same quality or more salty? Thanks!

I would think eventually used in large quantities would not be want one would one to do. How big is your patch? I am one that likes to go the organic route to save soil viability. I know one could skew the ratios in the soil if you do testing in the long run which wilil lead to other problems in the future. We will let DocGipe advise on this but I stay away from the miracle grow....thats just me though...Im still learning

I have both a garden center and HD. I didn't see "big" bags of the water soluble stuff there but will go back and try again. If not, may go the ordering route.

The Walmart brand soluble fertilizer is quite a bit cheaper than the miracle gro and the same formulation. It seems to do fine.

I have switched more to kelp though lately. The Alga Core is 1/2 tsp per gal, so a $40 pail has gone a long way.

Eric,

There are differing grades of 20-20-20 out there. Most are made in just 3 really big milling plants that use mostly low cost ingredients (read salty).

Miracle Grow, Lesco, Doggett, Peter's & Fritt Industries is all pretty much the same & mostly produced in just 3 different plants depending on where in the country it is being shipped. These all run around 2% Chlorine. Once you find it packed in 25lb containers (pails or bags) you shouldn't be paying $1.00 per Lb but many sellers will charge you more than this if you let them.

Miller makes a greater variety of soluble fertilizers. These include true floral grades for greenhouse use. Some plants are very salt sensitive. Miller Floral grade is one of only a handful that meets these growers expectations. We sell the Miller Floral grade 20-20-20 in a 25 lb bag for $20.00 but it would cost $40 to ship one to CA so don't even ask! LOL

Pumpkins aren't so sensitive to salts that ,most of us need to worry about the cheaper 2% CL grades. But some folks already have high salts. Others lay on the solubles so heavy that it matters to them too.

Either way I'm sure if you call around you can find this stuff out your way somewhere. Miller's website is pathetic but if you call them maybe they can steer you to a reputable west coast distributor.

Well I now have a lot to think about and several phone calls to make.

Sounds like Floral grade is my best bet so will look for that since I have yet to find a way to over feed these things and am putting on quanities suggested by Beachy. Thanks for all the help and if anyone has furthe suggestions please post away!
