When we started the season, our ph was about 6.8 or 6.9. Now, it shows 6.5 ! Is this too low for good growth and, if so, how do we get it back up ? Would it be a reasonable assumption that our water is bringing the ph down ? We have one pumpkin doing very well with a ph of 7.0 and the other two not growing well with a ph of 6.5 !

Most, if not all, home pH meters are very inaccurate and only a Lab or a nursery with the professional testing kit can get an accurate measurement of pH.

To answer your Q no 6.5 is not bad, if you want to raise it use a little Calcium cabonate around stump very little water in not too much ,and drown the plant! It will raise your ph. better yet try and catch a rain storm if you can do it right before the rain if any. in reality you want to keep the stump area somewhat dry to help prevent stump rot.
