I want to paint a paste on the main vine and about a foot on each secondaries. This paint/paste will have sevin, sulfur, merit, malathion, diazinon and as a vehicle/thinner will be baking soda and water. Flour works nice but the mice like it to. The mixture must be stirred with the paint brush when applying but once on and dried it lasts 2-3 weeks. I don't think it hurts the vine but the insects and critters don't like it. What is your thought????????????

YIKES!!!

I tried a Captan paste but found that it flaked off shortly after it had dried. Switching to Benomyl solved that problem.

Malathion is redundant with Diazinon. Sevin too???? And Merit???? LOL

Wow, I didn't think my idea was so novel. In the past I have painted the main vine with sevin. The wetted sevin did show white on the vine for a few weeks, with no apparent damage to the vine.

My intent is have a chemical barrier so when the SVB eggs hatch they are killed before or during entry into the vine.

I have trouble with Millipedes, Centipedes, slugs, etc. They not only attack OM but living fruits.

As this coctail washes off the vine it enters the ground only at the vine and its roots and kills the bad guys. Hopefully the merit get absorbed as an interior barrier.

I hate watching my vines die mid season from the SVB.

Are you trying to kill SVBs or the entire bug population? Do you think just burying the vines would solve your problem? That Diazinon stuff will give you cancer. Ugh!

In the past I have lost some nice fruit due to ROT as I had buried the main vine, that won't happen again. Entire bug population? If you mean at the main vine = Yes. Cancer, working the patch in the Sun will give you cancer.

My question didn't involve cancer, I was looking for a better vehicle to apply chemicals in a paste form. I didn't go into detail as to any chemical ratio because one should use the amount recommended on the label.

You could mixing your brew in soft beeswax as the paste, that way it is a one time deal and will not wash off..Just my thoughts...Jon

The vines expand over time with growth and also need to breathe so I wouldn't seal them too much....then again it might smother the fusarium....hmmm....?
