When using overhead watering do you allow the to water pass through the shade covering and on to the pumpkin or do you avoid watering in the shade area? Do you allow a certain amount of water to come in contact with the pumpkin and leaves under the shaded area?

Water,
I use old bed sheets for shade, so water falls everywhere. Late season you should try to keep pumpkin area dry and with good air circulation.

Water, Keep your fruit as dry as possible. Keep the fruit cool by creating good air circulation. Tom

John, Keep the pumpkin dry to minimize fungus and bottom rot, get a waterproof shade covering if using overhead sprinklers. Try to direct the spray so it doesn't hit the pumpkin. I am using soaker hoses this year which will keep the irrigation water below the leaf canopy.
