During the heat of the day, what would be the difference if you had a mister system turned on or just turned on the sprinkler for a few min. or so? I plan on having sprinklers set up and hope to not have to set up a mister system also. Also, when is the best time of the day to water, morning, mid day, or evening?

no difference, except just extra water......i like to know how much water i give my plants.......misting adds such a minscule amount of water, most of it rarely reaches the soil. but what you have in mind should work.

Randooo, two years ago all I had was a sprinkler to cool my plants when it got above 90 deg. I quickly found that you will saturate and flood your soil if you try to water it all day for cooling. I would HIGHLY recommend that you build some type of automated misting systm if you grow in an area that regulary exceeds 85 degrees in the summer.

A misting system isn't absolutely necessary. If you can run the sprinklers 5-10 minutes in the heat of the day when the plants are wilting, you will achieved what is needed.A wilting plant is not a growing plant.

Last year when the temperature got over 95 I used the misting system. I used soaker hoses to water with most of the time. It is not unusual in the central valley to have temps, 95-110 with about 10% humidity.
