I just put in a pool and had my water tested to see what chemicals I needed in the water. The ph of my well water was 8.8. I also tested the river water that I pump and the ph was at the top of the scale. Is there any thing I can add to the water when I put it in my 350 gallon tank to bring the ph down before I use it?

What is the PH, of your soil? Would it not be better to adjust the soil facts based, on several years of observation rather than the water.
Playing with water, in a tank situation like that seems, to create the possibility, of difficult control and possilbe over adjustment, to quickly.
I suggest you consult your local farm agent on this one.

Doc: My soil ph was good at the start of the season. I'm just worried that the high ph in the water will throw things off in my soil. I will test the soil again in the fall. thanks.steve

Steve,
I have used citric acid but you can use any of a number of acids out there from sulfuric to nitric to phosporic acid. I like citric because it is cheap, easy to get and does not burn your skin like the others can. Plus citric will chelate with the calcium and magnesium in the water.
BTW, I have high PH water of over 8 and since I added so much elemental sulfur to my soil, I have not had increased Ph. Just another way to handle it I suppose. My soil went from 7.4 to 6.9 at last test without changing my water Ph ever. Soil is sloooooooow to adjust based upon water, but it will adjust.

Thanks for the replies guys. I chatted with Craig Lempke and he informed me that vinegar would work to lower ph, but after your reply Ben I don't think I will worry about it now.
