What are your soil conditions and how much water do you use at during the peak of your pumpkins growth cycle? My soil is clay loam and have 14% organic matter. During the peak of my season (Aug.), I give the plants about 52-55 gal per day. Phil

Hard to answer Phil but it seems, to me, you are in the ballpark, for application, to a 1000 square feet.

This spring consider digging a hole and inserting a four inch piece, of plastic pipe. At any time you can pull the pipe and get your hand in there as deep as the pipe hole will permit. My pipe is in about a foot deep.

Your humus and clay will hold more water longer than some patches that may be short on clay and humus. If someone catches you with an arm in the soil like that tell them you are turning on your big pumpkin vibrator.

I have clay, clay loam soil as well and last year during "peak season" I applied 1500 gals /week on six plants on about 3600 sq ft. My ON was at 4.5% last year. I calculated this to about 1" equivelent.

depends on climate too, I will use much more water than the average northern grower since I'm in a very hot southern climate. it's pretty hard for me to over water in my patch with micro-sprinklers coming on and off during the hot summer each day. Our soil is light clay. Jimmy
