Since it is your first year growing I would recommend growing the seeds that you want to trade. It took me 8 years to get past the 500 lbs mark, so there is usually not an easy process to go through to get to a large weight. I remember starting seeds from Howard Dill when I was 8 years old and thought I could break 100, but did not break 1 lbs of plant before the hail hit it. The second year my father stepped on the only plant I had. The fact is this is a learning experience that takes time. I thought the 1911 Urena would grow the largest pumpkin of mine last year, but seed is only a small portion of it. I hope you grow a large pumpkin this year. Just remember that growers like Karl Haist have spent years trying to improve their reputation and the seeds you are offering could be viewed as offensive compared to the reputation of Mr. Haist. Just some thoughts from a 16 year old pumpkin grower.

Lol, your father stepped on the your plant. That is so universal. When I was in elementary school, I talked my mother into letting me plant pumpkin seeds. I go a little pumpkin (3-4lbs) to set and my Dad mowed back the vines to about 4 ft. which of course led to the demise of my little pumpkin. lol

The OVGPG seed sale still has a couple of Karl’s seeds available. There’s a link on the bigpumpkins.com home page.

It would have been great to see you in the MobyMike chat, karadza! My sincere apologies for thinking of inviting you after the fact, this self-isolation isn't doing my brain any favors, lol!
Mike went into depth about how to grow 'em big, including how he amends his soil, configures and buries his vines, and how he feeds his plant throughout the season. Lots of great info for any serious pumpkin grower! Hopefully the transcript will be available for everyone!
I hope you have an excellent first year, karadza!

karadza....pumpkin seeds are not baseball cards. I am getting the impression you are more interested in getting the best value for the least cost. Growers have generously sent you many seeds. Instead of being thankful, you are trying to turn the group into even better seeds. Since you first started posting, there have been many auctions. Obviously, you have a low budget. The best seeds available won't even break the top 30 at Stillwater if you don't have the budget to make the soil(and the other 6 factors) the best you can. I am sorry karadza.....i guess your are about 14 years old. Send an email to Henry...he knows what it is like to grow young. I expect henry will hit 2000 soon...but his approach was much different.

just think of the numbers on the seeds you have and what they CAN do for you - they didn't get to be at the weights they were without already surpassing your wildest pumpkin dreams for your beginning growing years - eg

I am just curious how a $300 value was assigned to the three seeds listed. I should sell now while the market is hot.

I remember the last few young folks that have come into this site, say hello, post an awesome journal, share the ups and downs....pretty sure they can get any seed they want...I have some of those seeds but not even a peep on your other post, so now I’m not sure...would love to help, but need at least a “hello my name is”. Either way, hope you get what yer after. Good luck. And I’d place a value of 30.00 on that lot..I give the 741s away for free.(to people that say hi...at least)

Like the Chop suggests. Do a diary or facebook or something to show some commitment to growing and growing seeds youve already been given. Your seed dealing isnt winning you sympathy from seed hoarders like myself or heavy hitters with there own 2000lbers.

Man, PChop you dish out some awesome advice and info (the likes of which have not been heard before) and we appreciate it man.
I think you are being generous with a value of $30. A simple email, letter or bubble envelope to some generous growers will get you quality seeds worth growing.

Those seeds you have will grow monsters as the genetic in most seeds now are excellent and most have that one ton potential. Your asking for older proven seeds which have a certain supply and demand aspect to them. So here’s a lesson in economics. You want the 2005 Haist... Bring $800 cash and I’ll meet you at Mall of America and POOF the seed is your......Look at that...... your wild goose chase will be over and you can attempt to grow your monster. Otherwise start with a $12 seed like me, grow for a year and buy more seeds at the winter auctions and then have more seeds then a person can grow in 10 lifetime!

Pretty funny that a couple of 'youngsters' in the past few weeks have caused such a 'stir' on this website - no one can contain themselves when given the opportunity to throw in their two cents' worth - just stop answering their posts/comments and wait until it is actual growing season and it'll subside...unless, of course, it is again time for some pre-season drama that will soon be unnoticed anyway, because we'll all be too tired after sprouting out seeds, tilling our soil, putting in heating cables, etc.; everyone has done their part in offering seed advice, other recommendations and so forth - i recommend no more answering these pleas for certain Haist/other seeds, as it is starting to cause angry glances amongst other members here that otherwise would be a non-issue to begin with. unless, of course, even IIIIIIII am bringing out someone's unwanted demons as well by saying so...
