There are several peppers that all claim to be the hottest currently and depending on who you talk to you will get different answers as to which actually is - since growing conditions can greatly influence the heat a pepper winds up with they all will vary and are all so close in heat that any one of them could be the hottest depending on where they were grown and what the conditions were like.
If you want to try the different ones be sure to go to a reputable site to get the seeds as there are a lot of vendors out there selling seeds they say are these seeds but wind up being cayennes etc. so be sure to get yor seeds from a reputable source.
That said here are a few of the contenders :
- Trinidad Scorpion Butch T ( Butch T is a member of TheHotPepper.com website and goes by the forum name of Tigahb8 ) He sells seeds directly so would be a good source for a true strain of the seeds.
- Trinidad Morouga Scorpion -- This one was tested by New Mexico's Chile Pepper institute and they are a good source for seeds of this strain. (currently out of stock but will be getting more soon)
- Carolina Reaper - THis is the newest supposed hottest but they seem to be trying to make $ off of them and have thus far not actually released anything to back up their claims other than marketing so only time will tell if it is just another contender or is actually hotter. )only 2 vendors for seed as they are trying to make as much as they can before next season when the seeds will be widely available -- of the 2 I'd use( http://puckerbuttpeppercompany.com/ )as it is the grower vs. PepperJoe.com which is just handling marketing ! $10 + $5 shipping for 10 seeds !
- Naga Viper, Trinidad 7 pod Brain Strain, and Douglah are a few others that many say are extremely hot as well.

If using a secondary source for seeds there are several reputable sites like Cross Country Nurseries ( www.chileplants.com )- very good site that also sells seedlings as well as seeds of most varieties but are closed till next season - The Hippy Seed Company and PepperLover.com that have most of the various contenders at decent prices. OR if you do not mind the chance of a cross then there is a member of the hotpepper forum named Ajijoe that has a large selection from plants he has grown that he sells at a good price E-mail him at mosinjoe72yahoo.com and request a list and he will send you a list of the seeds he has available which includes most of them and several others as well.

I can guarantee that the moruga scorpion is hotter than a bhut jolokia. Burns much longer. So much pain. Bought them from the auction here. Eddy supplied them, it's written down somewhere on this site where he got them. Maybe he will tell us where to get more of these evil seeds. Lol

Bill I will have some but I can't guarantee the seeds will breed true. I got impatient and used a small paintbrush to pollinate some of them. I had black nagas, choc bhuts, as well as some regular bhut jolokia and moruga scorpion. The black nagas and the chocolate bhuts are both turning that nice brown. I was going to grow some out myself and never thought about trading seeds. I didnt fully realize the pepper heads take this as seriously as pumpkin growers!

I have a pretty good amount of trindad scorpion seeds that I will send you for the price of a bubble. It was the only pepper I planted this year however I did plant yellow and red. With the majority being red. I just added a picture of them early on to my pumpkin diary as they were turning red.
All that I ask for is a bubble with postage to me and back to you and a random pumpkin seed (could be anything interesting)
Just email me at Sglasgow@uab.edu and I will give you an address to send to.
