I plan on growing at least 1 flag pattern next year and I am wondering if there are specific seed genetics that tend to yield larger fruit from smaller plants in the flag pattern and if so would like to find some. Thanks jeffp

I have found on smaller vine patterns that careful attention to everything is critical to success. I think of it like growing a bonsai tree in a small pot.

Here is 700 pounds of pumpkin from a 7' wide x 15' long patch.

I've thought about flag patterns but I figured my best bet was to put the main right down the middle. That way the deep and sprawling tap roots from the main vine have maximum space to collect all the goodies to send down the vine and the three foot secondaries are just helpers.

Very impressive Alex, and sorry for the rook question Jeff, but what is a flag pattern?

Luke, flag pattern is...main vine w/secondaries on one side only!!! The main vine is the flag pole, and the secondaries are the flag!!! Peace, Wayne

I've had some limited success with flag patterns as I also grow in a small area. A plant with a 20' main vine and 10 secondaries on one side each vine being 15' long has resulted in 600-800 lb pumpkins for me.

No on specific seeds for this endeavor Jeff, I think anything would work well as the next.
