I am looking for an AG seed that has a tendancy to produce white offspring. My uncle would like to give giant pumpkin growing a try, and he would like to grow two plants that tend to produce white offspring. I have one 1018 Van Hook to give him, but would love to find another seed. I gave away the majority of my seeds, so I don't have much to trade. Thanks for your help.

Jeremy, We had a white pumpkin last year from the 1161 Rodonis and crossed it with the 1502 Wallace. Not sure of what the seed produced but it did go 21% heavy. here is a pic of it.... http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=123388 I have plenty of seeds if interested. John

John,
That is very odd that your 1161 Rodonis would produce such a white pumpkin. You just never know what is going to happen, lol. I will show my uncle a picture and let you know this week. Thanks.

695 Handy genetics go pretty white. Actually I don't think that "pretty" is the appropriate word though.

The 1161 had the 1450 Wallace as the pollenator. I grew the 1450 in 2008 and it was as white as a sheet. I didn't look like it was going to change color either. I blew it up at just over 500 pounds.
The 1145.5 Van Hook 09 is the 1161 X 1450. You may want to look into what color John's pumpkins were this past season to see what could be expected from that cross.
If he no longer has any, I have one up for auction currently at PerrysGreenhouse. Starting bid is $10.

1018 VanHook usually produces big white pumpkins. Which I believ the cross is a 1450 wallace selfed.

John, looks like your pumpkin wasn't near done growing from the color, was it?, Look at my 1161 pictures, mine was almost white as snow for the longest time but changed color the very last part of the season. Did you pick yours early and was your pumpkin still growing when you picked it from the vine?
(White color) http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=115735
here it is when it changed to a salmon, yellow, greenish, orange color really late in the season. On the back of the pumpkin where the shoulders and stem part was it had a nice orange color. Colors of the rainbow,,lol

Jeremy,
Have I got a seed for you! Check out the 972 Breznick (2007) on aggc. Mark grew it off my 668 Veader (2006). The 668 Veader is: F: 1123 Daletas (2004) X M: 1333 Connolly (2005)
Other growers have also reported white offspring.
While you have found some seeds, I would still be happy to send you seeds as a backup.
Chuck

Brooks, Good point about the 1161. We had a hard time getting a set on the pumpkin and finally got a keeper on July 26th. So it was just around 55 days old in a cool wet summer, so probably not real mature. It did go 21% heavy and held all the way through Halloween to make a nice carver. John
